About us

Who is MANEDA?

Manipur North Economic Development Association (MANEDA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Senapati District, Manipur, working since 1991 to empower marginalized and vulnerable tribal communities. Through a rights-based, participatory approach, MANEDA works across livelihoods, disability, health, education, child protection, gender equity and youth empowerment, partnering with communities, government and donors to build a more just and inclusive society.

Our aim is simple: to help create a society where people live with dignity, exercise their rights and shape the future of their communities.

Skills, training and support for rural youth to build livelihoods and strengthen self-reliance.

Providing girls in need with care, education and life skills in a safe and nurturing environment where they can grow with dignity.

Turning Opportunities into Possibilities

For more than three decades, MANEDA has worked alongside vulnerable and marginalised communities in Manipur, creating opportunities for people to learn, earn, participate and build more secure futures.

Founded in 1991:

33+ years of grassroots work in Senapati and Kangpokpi Districts, Manipur

Six flagship programmes:

Innocent Smile School, Hope Home, Open Shelter, Tribal Girls’ Hostel, EYE, and FAB

Supporting Girls & Rural Youth:

Since 2017, MANEDA has supported 187+ girls and 33 rural youth, with 25+ receiving seed funding.

Creating Change, Building Futures

Innocent Smile School

Innocent Smile School (ISS) provides education and rehabilitation for children and young people with special needs in Manipur.

Hope Home

Established in 2013, Hope Home provides safe, nurturing residential care for vulnerable girls in Senapati District, Manipur.

Open Shelter

Established in 2017, MANEDA’s Open Shelter provides temporary shelter, care and support for vulnerable girls below 18 in Senapati District.

Tribal Girls' Hostel

Established in 2018, the Tribal Girls’ Hostel supports vulnerable tribal girls with safe accommodation and continued education.

Empowering Youth Enterprises

Launched in 2021, EYE supports rural youth through entrepreneurship and mentorship, promoting self-reliance and reducing migration.

Friends Across Barriers

FAB promotes children’s and women’s rights through peacebuilding and conflict resolution across 15 villages in Senapati and Kangpokpi.

Care, Protection & Inclusion

MANEDA supports children, young people and vulnerable communities through care, protection and rehabilitation. Our work is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves dignity, safety and the opportunity to shape their own future.

Building Skills, Livelihoods & Opportunities

MANEDA helps young people and communities turn skills and ideas into sustainable livelihoods. Through training, seed funding and continued mentorship, we support people to become more confident, independent and economically secure.

Purpal Store – Passion & Perseverance

Young graduates Haveinai and Roziiveinai joined the EYE Project, developed their business skills and launched Purpal Store, offering traditional and handmade accessories. Their journey shows how the right support can turn an idea into a livelihood.

Heingausing – Crafting a Future with Bamboo

Heingausing of Bakie Village used traditional bamboo skills passed down by his grandfather to start his own furniture enterprise. Through EYE training, seed funding and mentorship, he is growing his business and hopes to create jobs and inspire other young people.
