Open Shelter
MANEDA’s Open Shelter, established on 3 April 2017 at Katomei Centre, Senapati
District, is a community-based drop-in centre providing urgent, temporary shelter and
comprehensive support to girls below 18 in distress — particularly those from
vulnerable, marginalised or at-risk backgrounds. Services include non-formal
education, life skills and vocational training, medical care, nutritional support,
psychosocial counselling, and reintegration assistance.
Children arrive at the shelter under a range of circumstances, including having fled
unsafe environments, been evicted from rented accommodation, facing financial crisis,
needing care while a parent is hospitalised, escaping domestic violence or abuse, seeking
medical treatment, collecting documents, or attending coaching/training with no
affordable place to stay. The aim is not only to provide immediate safety, but to help
children move forward through education, counselling, skills development, family
reunification and reintegration wherever appropriate.

FY 2024–25 Highlights
- Over 187 vulnerable girls supported since establishment
- Over 100% of children who stayed were successfully re-enrolled or continued in school after counselling and support
- Many children safely reunited with families after thorough assessment and follow-up
- Girls report increased confidence through life-skills and vocational training (tailoring, art, hygiene, communication)
